Linux Active Directory

Active directory is a directory which contains information of all objects, objects can be users, computers ,printers and network resources. The purpose of active directory is user logon and authentication by Kerberos protocol.

Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) stores directory data and manages communication between users and domains, including user logon processes, authentication, and directory searches. An Active Directory domain controller is a server that is running AD DS.

DNS: domain name system is an internet service that translate domain name into ip addresses because domain names are alphabetic. They are easier to remember.

In Win-2008 we configure services like AD DS(active directory domain services), DNS, WDS(windows deployement service, iis(internet information services)
